Annie Leathem


Annie’s true maiden name (Caldwell / Hess / Heck) and her ancestry are mysteries at the time of this writing (2022).

 

George Leathrum recalled the names Caldwell and Heck for his mother.

 

On his marriage license in 1915, William S. Leathem recorded his mother’s name as Annie Caldwell.

Annie Hess was possibly the sister or step-sister of Martha Rebecca Faries who attested to an application for a Delayed Birth Registration for her niece, Annie’s daughter, Bessie Leathem in 1945.  Find “Martha Rebecca Faries” in the Family Tree Index for more information.

In the earliest known official record, Annie Leathem is found as the wife of James H. Leathem in the 1900 Census.  The record shows that she is the mother of 5 children, 5 living.

In the 1910 Census, Annie Leathem and her son George were recorded living in the household of John Darrell, Sr. on “The back road to Clayton”, 3rd Representative District, Kent County, DE.  The record shows she is the mother of 12 children, 9 living.
