“Cousin” Mae and
her second husband, Phillip Salter, operated a grocery store, service station
and auto repair shop at Pine Tree, Route 13 and Ginns Corner Road, Townsend,
DE. Their living quarters were attached
to be back of the store until they built a brick house immediately north of the
shop. All of this is now part of the DE
Route 1 toll road.
After Phillip’s
death, Mae lived in Frederick’s Lodge, Smyrna, DE and Dover, DE. She was a frequent visitor of George and
Margaret Leathrum in Dover.
